How Important is Ventilation in the Home?

Ventilation is very important for a healthy home environment.  Why?

Because it controls how much moisture is lingering in the air. A warm and dry home is so important for your general wellbeing and it also keeps your house and furnishings free from mould.

Another reason is to remove stale air, which in winter is important when cold and flu symptoms are at their highest.

How to keep good ventilation and reduce moisture in the home:

  • Always use an extractor fan or open a window in the bathroom and kitchen
  • Even on cooler days, try to leave a few windows open by at least a finger width
  • Dry your washing outside to prevent damp air in the home
  • Using a heat pump or home ventilation system will make sure clean air is circulated
  • If you have a dehumidifier use it during winter
  • Use moisture absorbers such as ‘Damp Rid’ to suck the moisture out of the air
  • Make sure your laundry dryer is vented to the outside
