How To Clean Blankets

Blankets should be cleaned and washed from time to time, it is usually recommended they are cleaned at the beginning or end of a season.

Depending on the blends and fibres they are made of, washing blankets is possible by hand, machine or dry cleaning.

It is important to check the care instruction label to ensure the appropriate method is followed.

If it cannot be machine-washed or dry cleaned, you will need to soak your blanket in slightly warm water containing detergent for 15 minutes and wash it by hand.

If the care tag states that your blanket can indeed be machine-washed fit your blanket into the washing machine along with a mild laundry detergent and fabric softener as per your washing machine instructions.
Make sure that you set your washing machine on the gentle cycle and use cold water for your wash.

After washing your blanket if the instructions state tumble drying is ok, place the blanket in the dryer for no more than 10 minutes and then allow to dry completely in the open air.

Blankets should never be completely dried in a dryer because there is the risk that the blanket might get scorched.

Air drying is recommended by the majority of manufacturers. Drape and straighten your blanket out over a dry rack or two parallel lines, and make sure it is not out of shape.

Alternatively take it to your nearest dry cleaner.
