Can the Rug Doctor Be Used for Flooding?
Flooded Homes: Where to Start After Severe Weather
With New Zealand’s most recent weather bomb impacting large parts of the country, many homes are experiencing devastating flooding and facing the aftermath of a major clean-up.
Where do you start?
For homes that have suffered significant flooding, the first step should always be to contact your insurance company.
Once the clean-up begins, it’s critical that the home is dried out thoroughly. Any moisture trapped in carpets, underlay, or wall and floor cavities can lead to timber decay and mould growth if not addressed properly.
Working with professionals who specialise in flood restoration is strongly recommended. In most cases, carpets need to be completely lifted so the underlay and subfloor can be dried correctly. If this step is skipped or done improperly, it can cause serious problems later on.
Important note: Rug Doctor machines are designed for use on dry carpets only. They are not suitable for extracting floodwater.
If your home has been affected by flooding, we recommend lifting carpets only with the advice and assistance of a flood restoration professional to ensure the job is done safely and correctly.
